Local Team Recognized for Micro Bird's Establishment in Plattsburgh

We are thrilled to have been part of the team honored for by the New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC) at their 2025 Annual Meeting for our work helping to facilitate the establishment of Micro Bird's new Plattsburgh manufacturing facility.

Through a collaborative partnership between New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, the County of Clinton Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA), Empire State Development, and the North Country Chamber of Commerce, TDC is supporting the transition of Micro Bird into the former Nova Bus facility on Banker Road in Plattsburgh, NY.

NYSEDC's Project of the Year is awarded to exceptional successes that further the economic development of New York and recognizes the state's most impactful redevelopment and investment initiatives.

Following Nova Bus’s announced closure of their Plattsburgh assembly plant, Micro Bird worked with the team to acquire Nova Bus's Banker Road facility. This bold initiative capitalized on the opportunities afforded by Nova Bus's years of investment in their facility and local workforce development by attracting Micro Bird with a turnkey facility and skilled labor pool, effectively offsetting the the potential loss of 350 well-paid manufacturing jobs. Micro Bird's investment demonstrates the power of creativity, teamwork, and demonstrated track record of success in working to attract, retain, and expand businesses for the greater Plattsburgh area.

This effort was supported by up to $12 million+ in tax incentives and grants awarded by Empire State Development and the County of Clinton Industrial Development Agency. Micro Bird will invest up to $38 million+, paving the way for 350 or more skilled job opportunities in our area.

Micro Bird’s arrival supports New York’s clean transportation strategy—producing both electric and conventional school and commercial buses. The operation is expected to build nearly 3,500 buses annually, matching its Quebec facility in scale and reinforcing the region’s manufacturing legacy.

Our President and CEO, Danielle King, joined CCIDA Executive Director Molly Ryan, North Country Chamber of Commerce's Vice President of Economic Development Abby Praetorious, and Empire State Development's Mike Morse to speak on a panel titled, "How Clinton County Saved 350 Jobs," at the NYSEDC Annual Meeting.
